Product Description
Craigellachie 17 Year Old is a classic example of our unapologetic and distinct Single Malt Scotch Whisky style – and that style was already considered to be old fashioned even back in 1891. Craigellachie Single Malt Whisky is the rock at the heart of Speyside, yet is anything but your typical ‘Speyside’ Whisky. Its muscular robustness comes from the use of oil fired malt and worm tub condensers. Craigellachie 17 Year Old has a smooth and mellow character, with the extra years spent ageing bringing out additional flavours and a subtle liquorice smokiness.
Speyside Whiskies are known to be fruity and floral, but as the rock of Speyside, Craigellachie Malt defies with its oil fired, rich character. Craigellachie 17 Malt Whisky is matured in a mixture of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The bourbon casks bring vanilla, toffee and fudge notes to the fore, and the sherry casks provide richness and complexity. Craigellachie 17 Scotch Whisky has aromas of vanilla and rich, silky notes of exotic fruits, dried pineapple and a hint of smoky liquorice.
Craigellachie Whisky Single Malt is produced in a distillery designed by Charles Doig, a famous distillery architect of his time. When he visited in the 1890s, Alfred Barnard – the original Whisky writer – described Craigellachie Single Malt Whisky as ‘Old Fashioned’, which has remained true to today. The brand was created to be innovative. Two gentlemen with distilling backgrounds, Alexander Edward and Peter Mackie built the distillery on land they bought from Edward’s father in 1891. At the time, the distillery was said to bring together the old and the new – a new way of thinking about Malt Whisky with time honoured techniques.
