Description

A long and delicate red from Pauillac

Chateau Clerc Milon is a Classified 5th Growth produced in the Pauillac appellation. This red wine is planted on a 41 hectare vineyard, with gravel, clay, chalky soil. The wine is matured in oak barrel (of which 40% are new), for an average of 16-18 months depending on the vintage. The 2016 vintage is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Carmenere.

The climatic conditions were highly affected by the seasons. Winter and spring brought heavy rainfall. It rained for 4 months when it usually rains for 6. Summer and autumn were defined by heat and droughts. These extreme weather conditions impacted the grapes, there were many of them and they remained small. The grapes were dense and highly concentrated. The pleasant temperatures in August and September allowed the grapes to mature. Harvest started on September 26th and lasted until October 15th.

Its deep, and practically black colour, is the first characteristic that we notice about Chateau Clerc Milon’s 2016. The nose is the product of finesse and elegance. The intense aromas of ripe fruit, with hints of liquorice and pepper. The mouth has an ample and precise attack. The tannins are creamy, and dense. The palate detects flavours of blackberries and bilberries. The wine has a long and delicate finish, with subtle hints of chocolate.
