Description
A soft and silky red wine from Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Château La Gaffelière is a 1er Grand Cru Classé B produced in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation. This red wine benefits from a vineyard of 16 hectares, planted with vines aged 36 years on average. These are located on a terroir typical of the appellation, consisting of a limestone plateau, a clay-limestone hill and a siliceous base. The wine is aged in French oak barrels (50% of which are new), for 14 to 16 months depending on the year. The 2007 vintage blends 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.
With its dark red colour, the Château la Gaffelière 2007 gives off aromas of black fruits and licorice, before developing subtle notes of violets upon aeration. The attack is soft and silky on the palate, after which the wine offers tight and elegant tannins. The finish is tremendously long and shows a pleasant aromatic persistence.
