Description

Delicious wine Chateau Calon-Segur is produced from selected berries with vineyards located on two sites to the north-east and north-west of the castle, where the average age of the vines is 35 years. Soil vineyards consist of gravel, sand and clay, resting on the black limestone subsoil. Due to the long maceration for 21 days the wine acquires a deep color and a delightful bouquet of taste and aroma. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel temperature-controlled vats at 30 ° C, after which the wine is aged in oak barrels for 18 months, 50% of which – new. Every three months, made wine from the sediment removal, so it is not clarified and filtered. Wine storage capacity is 15-20 years.

History of the name Château-Kalon Segur goes back to the Gallo-Roman era, and the first part of its name, it has received from the naming of the town Kalon, in which the castle is located, and the second – during the tenure of the estate of the Marquis de Segur. It was under his strict guidance of wine Chateau Kalon-Segur in the XVIII century received this recognition. Heart on its label is shown in tribute to the great master, since once the Marquis said: “I make wine Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Kalona.”

Despite the fact that the Chateau Kalon-Segur is third class Grand Cru Classe, it can confidently compete with the first class. Of all the other wines of Saint-Estephe appellation Chateau Segur-Kalon can confidently be called the best, because it was created by a traditional technology and is capable of long and gracefully develop in the bottle for several decades.
