Despite the fact that Chilean wines have appeared on the world market recently (15-20 years), year after year, they are gaining popularity due to the bright flavor, rich taste and attractive price. It is noteworthy that the State of Chile has a length from north to south for about 4,300 km from west to east – an average of 180 km. This geographic location ensures that almost all climatic zones, from subtropical to moderate. These unique climatic conditions in Chile have formed a large number of wine-producing regions, and allow to grow wonderful grapes.
One of the oldest and most famous wineries in Chile is “Carmen”, founded over 160 years ago by Christian Lanz, and named in honor of his beloved wife. In 1992 the new factory was built and laid new vineyards. “Carmen” today – a vineyard area of 650 hectares and annual production of 5.4 million bottles. The vast experience, combined with progressive methods of grape growing and wine production have allowed “Carmen” to create a wide range of fine Chilean wines of the premium segment. About 94% of the total wine production is exported to more than 50 countries, which is the best evidence of their high quality. In 2014, the publication “Meininger’s” published the results of the annual international competition “Mundus Vini”, in which two of wine from the “Carmen” received gold medals: “Gran Reserve” Carmenere, 2011, and “Gold Reserve” Cabernet Sauvignon, 2008.
