Description
This is a big and exciting wine from the Southern Italian region of Basilicata. It is made from the idigenous Aglianico grape variety. Aglianico is a black grape considered with Sangiovese and Nebbiolo to be one of the three greatest Italian red wine varieties, so much so that it is sometimes called “Barolo of the South” (il Barolo del Sud). This example lives up to the expectation.
In the glass it shows ruby red colour with hints of garnet. The bouquet is complex, fruity and elegant, with clear spicy notes. The palate reveals intense notes of cherry and jam, currant, and rosemary, tobacco, cinnamon and hints of vanilla. The finish is warm, long and seductively aromatic.
Aglianico del Vulture DOC and Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG are Italian red wines based on the Aglianico grape and produced on volcanic soils derived from nearby Mount Vulture.
Perfect with red roasted meat or ideal to enjoy on its own.
