Product Description
Craigellachie 13 Year Old is an unapologetic and distinct Single Malt Scotch Whisky. It was already considered to be old fashioned even back in 1891. Craigellachie Single Malt Whisky is the rock at the heart of Speyside, yet is anything but your typical ‘Speyside’ Whisky. Its muscular robustness comes from the use of oil fired malt and worm tub condensers. Craigellachie has a full yet aromatic character that has made this Single Malt a prized Malt for blending since the late 19th century.
Speyside Whiskies are known to be fruity and floral, but as the rock of Speyside, Craigellachie Malt defies with its oil fired, rich character. Craigellachie 13 Malt Whisky is matured in a mixture of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The bourbon casks bring vanilla, toffee and fudge notes to the fore, and the sherry casks provide richness and complexity. Craigellachie Scotch Whisky brings aromas of oozing toasted marshmallows, roasted pineapple and baked apples studded with cloves, with the tang of cordite lingering in the background.
Craigellachie Whisky Single Malt is produced in a distillery designed by Charles Doig, a famous distillery architect of his time. When he visited in the 1890s, Alfred Barnard – the original Whisky writer – described Craigellachie Single Malt Whisky as ‘Old Fashioned’, which has remained true to today. The brand was created be innovative. Two gentlemen with distilling backgrounds, Alexander Edward and Peter Mackie built the distillery on land they bought from Edward’s father in 1891. At the time, the distillery was said to bring together the old and the new – a new way of thinking about Malt Whisky with time honoured techniques.
