Description

Cognac production in Armenia was founded in 1887 by the merchant of the first guild Nersess Tairyan at the first wine and vodka factory he built in Yerevan. Smoking alcohol took place according to classical French technology – it was the Yerevan plant that was the first to be equipped with two Charente-type distillation apparatuses and had appropriate premises for aging cognac spirits in special conditions, while other cognac factories in Armenia were actually handicraft production.

In 1899, the plant became the property of the famous Russian society “N.L. Shustov and Sons” and its cognacs began to be supplied to the court of His Imperial Majesty Nicholas II. At international exhibitions, Armenian cognacs began to win Grand Prix and gold medals.

During the nationalization of all wine and cognac factories in 1920, the Yerevan factory was the first to become state property. In 1953, the cognac factory was transferred to a new monumental building – the pride of Armenia and renamed the “Yerevan Brandy Factory”. This wonderful enterprise, equipped with the latest equipment, still produces the famous Armenian brandy Ararat.

In 1998, Yerevan Cognac Factory became part of the French group Pernod Ricard. Pernod Ricard specialists not only carefully preserved the historical traditions of Ararat brandy production, but also provided new high quality standards for this legendary drink.
